Our Bishop

Bible in one hand, duty in the other.

Bishop Dr. William Sifuna Watitwa is a man of two callings: to protect life and to care for souls. For three decades he has served in the Kenya Police while ministering the Gospel, and he has shown in every posting that faith and duty can walk side by side.

Long before he wore a uniform, his schoolmates called him “Pastor” because he prayed with and encouraged those around him. He joined the police in 1995 and trained at Kiganjo, then began his service in Garissa, in the former North Eastern Province. There he escorted travellers on dangerous roads and learned to lean on God for protection. Later postings took him to the Railways Police in Nairobi and Eldoret. In 2004–2005 he served on a United Nations peacekeeping mission in Kosovo, where he carried his Bible alongside his duty. He also preached at a public crusade with Albanian and Serbian interpreters and helped mediate between communities.

Back home, at Police Headquarters in Nairobi, he visited stations and hospitals to pray with injured officers and their families. As an officer with the Kenya Airports Police Unit, he started a lunchtime fellowship and Sunday crusades for officers and airport staff. He later commanded police stations, including Donyo Sabuk. As Chief Inspector in Maralal, Samburu County, he became known as “the preaching policeman.” He counselled offenders before arresting them, mediated minor disputes so that families could be restored, and set up a safe shelter for children who had suffered abuse.

His compassion for those who serve grew out of his own experience. After responding to a tragic railway disaster, he received counselling himself and resolved that no officer should carry trauma alone. He went on to lead chaplaincy and counselling programmes in the National Police Service, teaching officers and commanders across the country about mental wellness, stress management and caring for one another. He has also served with the National Disaster Management Unit.

He was ordained a Reverend in 2010 and has served as Senior Pastor of Jesus Glory Celebration Centre since then. He was later consecrated a Bishop. He studied Bible and Theology at KAG University and counselling psychology, and he is a court-accredited mediator. His ministry is marked by passionate preaching, practical counsel and an uncompromising stand for integrity.
